Memorial Garden

An answer, at least in part, to the age-old concern of the Christian community to participate in the proper disposition of earthly human remains was the establishment of the Memorial Garden as proposed by the Session of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church.

Affirming that cremation is an acceleration of a natural process and is generally believed to be consistent with our understanding of resurrection and eternal life, our Memorial Garden has been created to provide a serene, attractive setting for meditation as well as an area for the interment of human cremains.

This service is being provided to the community of faith, that is, to members of this church, their families, former members, friends of the church, and others whom the Session approves. The interment of human cremains shall be directly into the earth and within the designated area for such interment. Interment shall be accompanied by a Christian service of committal by a pastor of this church or another ordained Christian pastor agreed to by the family and the Session.

Because the Memorial Garden is complete in itself, plantings or other kinds of permanent markers are not permitted. Freshly cut flowers may, however, be temporarily placed in the area of interment in support of a service of committal.

The Memorial Garden is not a columbarium. It will, therefore, not contain individual nameplates or stone slabs. For a nominal suggested donation, the names of those interred can be engraved upon the memorial stones located within the garden. Those who meet the qualifications as stated above, may prepay the donation to reserve space on the memorial stones. The Memorial Garden is neither regulated by the State of Florida nor required by law to be maintained in perpetuity. For additional information, please contact the church office.
