Mission Ministry

Mission & Outreach

The mission of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church's Mission Ministry is to respond to His call by reaching out to all people. The Mission Ministry is dedicated to reaching out and helping others locally, nationally and around the world. Assistance is given with “hands on” activities as well as financially to some 30 organizations. Feeding the homeless, --- providing food and clothing to migrant farm workers, --- working with boys in a group foster home, ---delivering food so school kids have something to eat over the weekends, -- ringing the bell and manning a station for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas activity, --- participating in national and international mission efforts --- and building with the Habitat for Humanity -- these are a few of the many opportunities for church members to help some of God’s children who are in need. The following is a list of the local, domestic, and world organizations supported by our church..

The coalition operates a 52 bed general population shelter with a focus on keeping families in distress together. Meals are provided 365 days a year and a food pantry is available for needy families.

Young Life is dedicated to sharing the truth of God’s love with adolescents in middle school, high school, and college.

Teaching farmers around the world how to be more effective in producing enough to meet the needs of their families and communities.

This project ensures that homeless students have equal access to free public education.

Twelve local churches, in association with Habitat for Humanity, build one home each year for a qualifying family.

The Mission of Back Pack Kidz is to feed hungry children one back pack at a time. Many children in Charlotte County do not have a stable source of food except the free or reduced breakfast and lunch provided by the schools. Approximately 24% of children in Charlotte County live below the poverty level. Back Pack Kidz helps bridge this gap in food by providing a backpack filled with nutritious food to over 1500 children for use over the weekends.

This all-volunteer organization devotes 100% of all monies raised to purchase food for children.

Since 2010, Back Pack Kidz has been filling back packs with nutritious, kid-friendly food for Charlotte County’s neediest children. —“Children who eat well, concentrate better and learn faster.”

BSPC, through the Missions Ministry, participates in this activity by contributing both funding $4,000.00 in January 2023, from Missions Ministry Budget Items, and “hands on” assistance. Approximately 120 packages of food are delivered, each week, by BSPC members to two Charlotte County elementary schools. In 2022 the Pack Pack Kidz organization delivered 1500 packages weekly.

During Covid19, food continued to be delivered in plastic bags because children could not bring their back packs back to school. The important thing is that food continued to be delivered.

Food given to children is purchased from U S Foods. Elementary school children receive 16 items of food in a bag. All food is single portion food and does not require refrigeration or cooking.

This faith based mobile outreach program connects with the homeless by bringing them food and providing a connection to local and government services and assistance.

The mission addresses the plight of migrant farm workers in Immokalee. Our church provides meals and food supplies, as well as volunteers who go to Immokalee to package food for distribution to migrant workers' families. A sign up sheet is available in the narthex.

Our church staffs the kettles at one location for 8 hours a day. Some 120 church members serve 2 hour shifts during the holiday season.
